Prince Jackson, eldest son of the late pop icon Michael Jackson, has announced his engagement to his girlfriend of eight years, Molly Schirmang. The 28-year-old shared the news in a heartfelt Instagram post on Aug. 26, striking a tone of love and optimism.
A Romance Years in the Making
In his post, Prince set the news to his father’s 1987 ballad “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” and included a carousel of memorable photos. He wrote, “8 years down ♾️ to go. Molly and I have spent a lot of time together and made incredible memories.” The caption continued: “We’ve traveled the world, graduated and grown so much together. I’m excited for this next chapter in our lives as we continue to grow and make great memories. I love you babs.”
Among the images, the couple appears dressed in coordinating white, kissing in a park, with Molly’s engagement ring visible. Other snapshots feature them hiking, kayaking, celebrating their 2019 college graduation, and sharing a tender moment with Prince’s grandmother, Katherine Jackson, outside the family’s Hayvenhurst estate.
College Sweethearts, Balanced Partners
Prince and Molly first met at Loyola Marymount University in 2017 and have cultivated a loving, low-key relationship ever since. Celebrating their anniversaries over the years, they took a trip to San Francisco in 2018, and donned caps and gowns together for graduation photos in 2019.
In a 2018 public appearance, Prince reflected on their connection, saying, “I think in everything there’s an important balance. I think that I’m a certain way, and she’s very – I don’t want to say opposite – but complementary in a way that we balance each other out. I’m more aggressive, she’s a little softer.” He added, “She likes the beach. I like the movies!”
Reactions from the Jackson family were warm and supportive. Taryll Jackson commented, “Congrats!!!” while Breana Cabral wrote, “Congrats… Love you both!” Michael Jackson’s former stylist, Rushka Bergman, added, “Congratulations to my beautiful darlings Prince and Molly! I love you!” Jackie Jackson’s daughter, Brandi, chimed in with “Congratulations!!”
Prince, born February 13, 1997, has continually honored his father’s legacy. After his graduation in 2019 with a degree in business administration, he co-founded the Heal Los Angeles charity, which supports underprivileged youth through resources like toys, food, and educational opportunities.
In past interviews, he spoke of his father’s influence, recalling, “What I miss probably the most about him are his hands. He had really strong, really big hands. Firm, but they were gentle.”
