Michelle Obama is addressing speculation that her marriage to Barack Obama is in trouble.
Making an appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast on Thursday, May 1, she made sure that everyone listening knew that everything is good in the Obama household.
“If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it,” the former First Lady said.
Steven Bartlett, host of the podcast, brought up that Michelle was noticeably absent from Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, which led to the allegations of marital issues.
“Let me tell you,” she said, pointing to her brother, Craig Robinson, “he would know it. And everybody would know it.”
I’m not a martyr,” the 61-year-old mother of two continued. “I would be problem-solving in public, like, ‘Let me tell you what he did,’” she explained.
Previously, Obama addressed her decision to skip the inauguration on her IMO podcast.
“My decision to skip the inauguration — or my decision to make choices at the beginning of this year that suited me — were met with such ridicule and criticism,” Obama said. “People couldn’t believe that I was saying no for any other reason, that they had to assume that my marriage was falling apart.”
Although everything is cool in her marriage, Obama did recall a time when she had trouble keeping her daughters, Malia and Sasha, away from the tabloids and paparazzi.
On Tuesday, Obama was interviewed on SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, where she revealed it was a “nightmare” to shield her daughters from the public scrutiny.
“They had to drive and they had to go to prom and they were on teams and they traveled to other schools and they had to do college searches, and they went to parties and they had drinks, and they tried out smoking and they did all the things,” Michelle said.
“Every weekend was a nightmare, because we had to work to make sure that them being regular teenagers didn’t wind up on Page Six.”
