Former First Lady Michelle Obama is gearing up for the release of her new memoir, Becoming, which will be available online and in stores next Tuesday (Nov. 13). While the media is focused on her using a piece of the book to take on Donald Trump, it’s her candid tale about a miscarriage that is grabbing people’s attention.
Our Forever First Lady sat down in an exclusive interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, and shares that she felt “lost and alone” after suffering a miscarriage and not being able to talk about it.
“I felt lost and alone and I felt like I failed because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them,” Mrs. Obama told Roberts. “We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken.”
She continues her conversation with the GMA co-host, and admits that her daughters, Sasha (17) and Malia (20), were conceived through IVF treatment.
“That’s why it’s important to talk to young mothers about the fact that miscarriages happen … and the biological clock is real. Egg production is limited and I learned that when I was 34 and 35. We had to do IVF.”
Michelle Obama’s exclusive interview will air on ABC this Sunday (Nov. 11) at 9/8c.
