Dr. Gabrielle Henry, representing Jamaica at Miss Universe 2025, suffered a series of serious injuries after falling through an opening on the pageant stage during the preliminary evening-gown round, organizers said Monday. The 28-year-old was immediately hospitalized in Bangkok, where she remains under constant neurological supervision.
The joint statement from the Miss Universe Organization and Henry’s family detailed the injuries: “intracranial hemorrhage with loss of consciousness, a fracture, facial lacerations and other significant injuries.” She was admitted to intensive care in Bangkok and continues to require 24-hour specialized supervision.
The release emphasized that Henry will return to Jamaica “in the coming days accompanied by a full medical escort team” and will be transferred directly to a hospital for further treatment and recovery.
Organization Assumes Responsibility
The Miss Universe Organization confirmed they have assumed “full and immediate responsibility” for Henry’s care, covering all hospital, medical, and rehabilitation expenses in Thailand. They are also providing accommodation and living costs for her mother and sister, who have remained by her side.
In addition, the organization pledged to fund the medically escorted repatriation flight to Jamaica and pay for any future medical costs arising from the incident.
In their statement, representatives strongly rejected recent media claims that Henry was to blame for the fall, calling such suggestions “entirely inaccurate.”
Henry’s family extended “heartfelt thanks to the people of Jamaica, the Miss Universe community, and supporters worldwide for the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers and encouragement.”
Following the accident, Henry withdrew from the competition on medical advice. Social media and global supporters have rallied in her defence. One commenter on a popular forum wrote:
“That was a nasty fall that she took. Hope she makes a speedy recovery and continues to heal.”
Others voiced anger at the venue’s staging:
“There has to be more to it. No way she just walked right off the edge of the stage.”
