Missy Elliott was honored by her hometown with a street naming.
The ceremony took place on Tuesday (August 9th), at the intersection of McLean Street between Airline Boulevard and Greenwood Drive in Portsmouth, Virginia. Its new name is Missy Elliot Boulevard.
The decision to honor the “Work It” rapper came after a Portsmouth city council voted unanimously to approve the request that came from a citizen. It has been reported by WTKR, that the renaming will “enhance the city’s rezoned Entertainment District.”
Missy expressed her gratitude for the honor in a tweet that read, “I am forever GRATEFUL P-TOWN VA #757 LOVE.”
