The ex-husband of a Morehouse School of Medicine surgical resident is now facing charges after allegedly stabbing her to death in her Georgia apartment.
Mickey Woolery, 49, was arrested on June 17 at his home in Carmel, Indiana after his ex-wife Dr. Samantha Woolery, 42, was found stabbed to death at her apartment complex over the weekend.
According to Fox 5, Dr. Woolery’s body was found Sunday morning after she did not show up for work. Her co-workers went to her apartment on Williams Drive and found her body inside.
When they visited her Marietta, Ga. apartment they found Woolery’s body with “large lacerations” on her back, neck, and shoulder. A bloody machete was also found near Woolery’s bed.
According to police, door camera footage caught Mickey walking away from her apartment covered in blood the night before her body was discovered. Also, a bloody fingerprint matching Mickey puts him at the scene of the crime.
Investigators say they used technology, including license plate readers, to track Woolery to Indiana. Police in Carmel, Indiana found him in a house, but said he did not go willingly.
“He attempted to run from the officers. He was later apprehended in a wooded area behind the home,” said Officer McPhilamy. “This is a violent fugitive that is now being held accountable.”
Woolery is being charged with felony murder, felony aggravated assault, felony aggravated battery, felony possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, and felony malice murder.
Marietta police are now working with the Indiana police to have him extradited to Georgia.
Morehouse School of Medicine shared, “We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Dr.Samantha Woolery,” on X.
“Her dedication to health equity and her compassionate spirit will forever be remembered,” the school added.
Dr. Woolery’s daughter started a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.
