The mother of the 6-year-old student who shot his teacher finally breaks her silence months after the incident.

Deja Taylor was charged with felony child neglect due to her son getting his hands on the gun. Taylor and her attorney claimed that the gun was legally purchased and put away in a secure location with a lock on it. There are no details on how the child got the gun.

We reported that first-grade teacher, Abigail Zwerner was shot through her hand with the bullet hitting her chest. In a recent interview, Taylor stated that her son has a severe case of ADHD and described that he would have a hard time sitting still and said that his behavior was “off the wall.”

She also explained that her child had a plan in school that required a family member to escort him to his class every day, however, the day of the shooting was the only time that he didn’t have an escort.  Zwerner’s attorneys argue that the student’s behavior was becoming worst leading up to the day of the shooting. He was also suspended the day before the incident.

No charges were brought up against the child because prosecutors believe that he is too young to understand court proceedings and the legal process, but now Taylor is facing criminal accountability for the shooting.

According to reports, “Taylor was charged last month with felony neglect and reckless storage of a firearm. A trial date of August 15th has been set. Taylor wants to reach a plea agreement with prosecutors.”

Taylor has also apologized for her son’s actions. “That is my son, so I am, as a parent, obviously willing to take responsibility for him because he can’t take responsibility for himself. I just truly would like to apologize. She did get hurt. We were actually kind of forming a relationship with me having to be in the classroom. And she is really a bright person.”
