Mya wasn’t playing when she sang “It’s All About Me.”

During a conversation with Judi Love, Mya shared more about how she’s became celibate.

“It wasn’t even a choice. It was just what it was, and then you look up, ‘Oh, time has passed,’” Mya explained. “I was fully committed to self and that meant in business and [projects], engulfing myself into my love and then my gifts that maybe I’d abandoned during that relationship. “

“Changing my diet and then starting to invest in just joy around me and getting rid of the bad energy, the bad vices that could become addictions or any form of escapism,” she continued.

Along with her celibacy journey, Mya revealed in a previous interview on Melyssa Ford’s Hot and Bothered podcast, that she never prioritized getting married or having children.

“It’s not even my focus, and it never has been,”  the “Best of Me” singer said when asked whether she had ever desired marriage or parenthood. “My mother is an independent thinker. I’ve witnessed a divorce between my parents. I’ve witnessed all kinds of things.”

“The white wedding dress … I was very fearful of those things,” she added, “I looked elsewhere and probably escaped too much in my work.”

Mya also said that the demands of her schedule have made maintaining relationships a challenge.

“If I have to be gone 95% of the time … I also can’t show up properly for my significant other,” she said.

While she’s not ready to get married now, she has not closed the door on changing her mind in the future.

“Not to say it’s not possible, and I’m not open to it,” Mýa clarified. “I’m open to all things, but right now, I’m on a specific assignment. That’s all.” Reflecting on familial ties, she remarked, “What is that feeling that I get with puppies? Is that going to happen with babies for me? … But I have godchildren, I have nieces, I have nephews … lots of children in my life.”
