Nelly and Ashanti are taking their love story to television. According to Deadline, Peacock has officially ordered a docuseries centered around the Grammy-winning artists, offering fans a deeper look into their personal and professional lives. The series, currently in production, comes from Critical Content, the studio behind Netflix’s Sly and MTV’s Catfish.
The project will chronicle the pair’s journey, from their early days in the music industry to their rekindled romance. According to reports, Nelly and Ashanti began filming the series several months ago. “This is an opportunity for us to let people into our world,” Nelly, born Cornell Haynes II, shared in a statement. “We’ve been through a lot, and we’re excited to show what’s real.”
Nelly and Ashanti: A Decade Apart, A Lifetime Ahead
Nelly and Ashanti’s relationship dates back to 2003, when they first started dating. After a decade together, they separated in 2013 but rekindled their love in 2023. Their reunion was kept private, leading to a surprise wedding in December 2023 in Nelly’s home state of Missouri. In July 2024, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Kareem Kenkaide.
Ashanti, known for hits like “Foolish” and “Rock Wit U (Awww Baby),” expressed her excitement about sharing their story. “Our journey hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it,” she said. “We hope this series inspires others to believe in second chances and true love.”
Both stars have a history of working in film and television. Nelly, known for chart-toppers like “Hot In Herre” and “Ride Wit Me,” previously starred in BET’s Nellyville and appeared in The Longest Yard and CSI: New York. Ashanti’s screen credits include Army Wives and Love & Listings.
The couple will serve as executive producers for the docuseries, alongside Critical Content’s Jenny Daly and Oji Singletary. While no release date has been announced, the series promises an intimate look at their evolving partnership.
