Tyler Perry has signed a multi-year first-look deal with Netflix.
As part of the new creative partnership, Perry write, direct and produce an array of feature films.
Perry’s upcoming films with Netflix include Six Triple Eight and Mea Culpa . Six Triple Eight stars an ensemble cast led by Kerry Washington about the inspiring true story of the the first and only Women’s Army Corp unit of color to be stationed overseas during World War 2. Starring Kelly Rowland, Mea Culpa tells the story of a criminal defense attorney who takes on the case of an artist who may or may not have murdered his girlfriend.
Perry’s previous films with Netflix include A Jazzman’s Blues, a sweeping tale of forbidden love that made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, A Madea Homecoming, the 12th installment of the billion dollar Madea franchise, and the thriller A Fall from Grace.
His previous film, 2005’s Diary of A Mad Black Woman, was added to Netflix earlier this year and was featured in Netflix’s top ten.
The prolific filmmaker has also created 17 multi-season television shows since “House of Payne” in 2007. He also signed a four-film production deal with Amazon in November of 2022.
Perry’s personal story will soon be coming to the screen via Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story, a doc directed for Amazon Studios and Bekele Films by Gelila Bekele and Armani Ortiz.
