New Edition is on cloud nine with their nomination into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
In the recent interview, the legendary group expressed their excitement about receiving the news of their possible induction.
“It feels incredible,” Bobby Brown said during a recent interview with The Boston Globe. “Just knowing that our prayers are being answered and everything is going in the direction that we had hoped for, and we wished upon, and we worked hard for … it’s a great thing.”
Ronnie DeVoe said the group heard about their nomination during a phone call from their manager while they were in Cleveland, home of the HOF. Amazingly, some of the members stopped by the museum during a recent tour stop.
“It’s just ironic that we’re leaving Cleveland, and here comes this blessing that we have been waiting for, to a certain extent, all of our careers,” DeVoe said. “It was just fitting.”
Michael Bivins noted that on the group’s bucket list is to “win a Grammy and earn a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.” This Fall, the group could be halfway there.
Currently, the New Edition is on tour with Boyz II Men and Toni Braxton. According to Johnny Gill, the tour has been one of the best in the group’s storied history.
“To pull off what we pulled off, it’s very hard to do,” Gill explained. “When you can get something that unique to happen, listen, this is one for the ages.”
NE’S UNDINABLE LEGACY
Bursting onto the scene in 1983 as “bubblegum” R&B stars, New Edition evolved into one of the most successful acts of the genre. They are the only group in history where every individual member (Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, and the trio Bell Biv DeVoe) achieved multi-platinum success as solo acts or offshoots. Collectively, the group and its members have amassed over 20 platinum certifications and a string of #1 hits like “Candy Girl,” “Cool It Now,” and the New Jack Swing masterpiece “Can You Stand the Rain.
Along with New Edition, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan are all final inductees.
