Former onscreen lovebirds, Nia Long and Larenz Tate are set to reunite as the leads of a new untitled romantic drama for Netflix.

The untitled film was officially greenlit by Netflix on Wednesday (Oct 15), per Deadline, and will be directed by filmmaker Eugene Ashe (Sylvie’s Love).

In addition to being the cast, Long and Tate will executive produce the film alongside R&B artist Maxwell and John D. Hammond. Kay Oyegun and Eugene Ashe are writers, with Ashe also the director.

The synopsis is currently under wraps but what we do know is that the film takes inspiration from Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite, the debut album from Maxwell. Released in 1996, the album is a heartfelt, soulful album that praises monogamous love.

According to the outlet, the project was shopped to Netflix after being turned away from Amazon.

The two icons previously reunited for a nostalgic holiday commercial in Dec 2024. The Walmart spot, titled “Give the Gift That Shows You Get Them,” paid homage to their classic film Love Jones.

At the 2025 American Black Film Festival, Tate and Larenz reunited for the highly anticipated “Remembering Love Jones” tribute event. During the lively panel discussion, the pair expressed gratitude for the film’s legacy, and reflected on the continued support from fans who grew up watching the film.

Though the details around the new project are not yet available, one thing that is certain is that the chemistry of Darius and Nina is still anticipated.
