Nia Long has continued to be an an example of resilience throughout the years, and just recently she provided the world with another example of her strength. The actress spoke with Associated Press, along with other actresses such as Lena Waithe, about the gender pay gap in the entertainment industry.
She addressed how she has been vocal in the past about this issue, but was only met with further criticism. “When I requested or wanted more, I was considered difficult, outspoken, entitled, and all of the things that should not be used to describe a woman who has earned her space, her place and delivers,” Long told AP. “And that just doesn’t apply to me, that’s for everyone.”
“I have watched a lot of men get rich off of the films that I’ve done, and I was being paid peanuts,” Long said. In the wake of the Times Up and Me Too movements, it’s crucial to have figures like Nia Long who continue to remain outspoken on these issues.
