Obama Endorses New Jersey Gubernatorial Candidate Rep. Mikie Sherrill

President Barack Obama has added his voice to the closing momentum for Mikie Sherrill for Governor, praising her commitment to service and lowering costs for New Jersey families.

“Mikie’s integrity, grit, and commitment to service are what we need right now in our leaders,” Obama said. “Mikie Sherrill is the right choice for your next governor. So go vote by Nov. 4.”

Obama, a two-term Democratic former president, will be featured in Sherrill’s endorsement ads across radio and digital platforms.

The 44th president included Sherrill’s status a mother, Navy pilot and one-time federal prosecutor, as reason’s for his support.

Sherrill is facing Republican former assembly member Jack Ciattarelli, who is endorsed by President Trump. The president participated in a telephone town hall for Ciattarelli ahead of his GOP primary win, and is expected to hold one for him again before the Nov. 4 election.

Sherrill is seeking to succeed term-limited incumbent Phil Murphy, a fellow Democrat who defeated Ciattarelli in a closer-than-expected 2021 contest.

“This November, we have an opportunity to chart a different path forward — to reject the chaos in Washington and lower costs in New Jersey — and I’m so grateful to have President Obama’s support and endorsement in this race,” Sherrill said in a statement.

Obama’s endorsement offers Sherrill a last-minute boost in the final weeks of the gubernatorial race. The Decision Desk HQ polling index shows Sherrill leading Ciattarelli, 49 percent to 44 percent.
