The Academy Award Gala is set to take place this fall despite the ongoing Hollywood strikes. Both the SAG-AFTRA and WGA unions agreed to let the event take place for its third year.
This year, many notable names in Hollywood will be honored for their work. Oprah Winfrey, Michael B. Jordan, Meryl Streep, and Sofia Coppola are each receiving awards throughout the night.
Jordan will be receiving The Vantage Award. It is given to an emerging artist or scholar whose work helps to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema.
Winfrey will be honored with The Pillar Award. This honor acknowledges exemplary leadership and support for the Academy Museum.
The fundraiser is set for October 14th. Its purpose is to raise proceeds for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ exhibitions, education initiatives, and public programming. The gala is sponsored by Rolex. Co-chairs include names such as Ava DuVernay and Halle Berry.
