Oprah Winfrey is getting ready for an upcoming TV special that will tackle the use of weight loss drugs and the impact it has on society.
According to reports, “An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame, and the Weight Loss Revolution” will air on ABC on March 18th at 8 pm and will address the medications that are out there and how it is related to losing weight. This special comes after we reported that she stepped down from the board of directors at WeightWatchers after being there for almost ten years.
It was revealed that Winfrey’s 40-pound weight loss contributed to the use of the medication prescribed to her by her doctor although she never disclosed the name of the drug. Oprah has been known to be against the use of weight loss medications, such as Ozempic and Mounjaro, calling them an “easy way out.”
The TV special will also speak on the impacts that these medications have on people living with diabetes and obesity, as well as its side effects. In a statement, the media mogul said, “It is a very personal topic for me and for the hundreds of millions of people impacted around the globe who have for years struggled with weight and obesity.”
She continued, “This special will bring together medical experts, leaders in the space, and people in the day-to-day struggle to talk about health equity and obesity with the intention to ultimately release the shame, judgment, and stigma surrounding weight.”
