The crew from Hillman College will returning to the quad!
According to Entertainment Weekly, Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Cree Summer, and Darryl M. Bell will all make appearances in the A Different World spinoff.
Felicia Pride, showrunner and executive producer, along with co-executive producer Debbie Allen, expressed their excitement in a statement.
“A Different World is back!!! YAY!! We are over the moon to bring this much-anticipated sequel with our returning legacy stars,” Pride and Allen said. “These beloved characters are returning in a major way that respects their history while engaging exciting storylines that are relevant to issues of today. We can’t wait for lovers of the show to experience this new chapter as a real continuation of the legacy show, and we’re excited to welcome new audiences to Hillman.”
Allen served as producer for 122 episodes and directed 83 of the original series.
“Throughout the season, fans will have a chance to reunite with these O.G. characters. And see how their lives have evolved into A Different World. And as the story unfolds, there will be more cast surprises in store for longtime fans.”
The new series chronicles the adventures of Deborah Wayne, the youngest daughter of Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne.
Alijah Kai as Rashida, Chibuikem Uche as Kojo, Cornell Young IV as Shaquille, Jordan Aaron Hall as Amir, Kennedi Reece as Hazel, round out the cast.
A Different World followed students through their HBCU experience, spinning off from The Cosby Show. It aired on NBC for six seasons, from Sept. 24, 1987, to July 9, 1993.
Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood spoke about the importance of the show.
“A Different World changed everything for us,” said the Bythewoods in a statement. “It was where we got our start as writers and where we found each other. This show has always been a part of our love story. To return to Hillman now and help reimagine this world for a new generation feels like a continuation of that legacy — one rooted in love, purpose, and possibility.”
