Girlfriends is one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time. After the last episode of the series aired in 2008, Persia White, who played Lynn Searcy, recently revealed that film could be in the works.
Speaking with PEOPLE, White said that preliamry talks about a film came up is a discussion with her castmates
“It came up during our get together,” White said. The castmates recently met at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont.
On Instagram, Reggie Hayes (William) posted pics with dinner pics with co-stars Tracee Ellis Ross (Joan Clayton), Jill Marie Jones (Toni Childs-Garrett) and Golden Brooks (Maya Wilkes). Mara Brock Akil, show creator, was also in photos.
“She’s into the idea. She said she would love to do a movie,” White said of Akil. “And I know that the cast, most of us have said at different times to the press, we would love to.”
White adds, “It’s not just us. It takes a whole village.” For now, their main focus appears to be “proper funding.”
“So, I mean, it’s the most exciting I’ve heard since we’ve all talked about a movie for all these years.
White also said that Akil taught the ladies “to know your value, know your worth and that we deserve a seat at the table.” Also, Kelsey Grammer, former exexuctive producer of the show, has expressed interest in movie.
“He’s been talking on the red carpet about, ‘Oh, I would do Girlfriends.’ And I was like, ‘Is he serious?’ I need to know. I literally need to know for my own mind and my own sanity. Like, are you serious?”
At that time, we were so new, especially in the very beginning. And he came on set a couple times,” White said of Grammer making camoes.
All eight season of Girlfriends are currently streaming on Netflix.
