Girlfriends star, Persia White, is making her long-awaited return to music. Her new album, Love Letters, is her way of getting back into her first love of music. When speaking to Essence about the new album, she shared how important music is to her.

“Music has always been a core part of my creative process and is very important to me,” White said to the outlet. “I’ve been creating and playing music at home primarily on my piano. My music slowly became more of a soundtrack to our lives and served as inspiration music while my husband Joseph worked on creative projects, or the dogs lounged in the sun. I managed to also score music for a few indie projects, but most of my music lived in my heart, and home.”

The new album is a 12 track project with sounds that transcends any one genre. Persia White fused sounds like electronic, soul and rock to really give the project life. She said that she grew to realize that her character, Lynn, from the hit show, represented many women who transcend any one genre.

“Millions of Black women connected to my free-spirited, hybrid taste in music, art, and alternate life perspectives. Women, especially Black and brown women, are the most diverse, beautiful, strong creatures on the planet,” White shared. “We are not given the same advantages as men, we sacrifice all too often, but we love, we adapt, and we prevail. Like wildflowers in the wind, we push, reach, pull, evolve, and grow towards the light, we are people of the sun.”

White’s Love Letters is available now to stream on music platforms.
