A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the Nov. 16 shooting of Kris Boyd, law enforcement officials said Monday. The arrest came after nearly three weeks during which the suspect was sought following the Midtown Manhattan gunfire.

Authorities with the U.S. Marshals Service Buffalo Division Task Force said the suspect surrendered to police on Monday morning in Buffalo, New York. The individual, reportedly from the Bronx, has not yet been charged, and no formal arraignment date has been announced.

An official from the New York Police Department declined to detail what role the suspect may have played in the shooting or whether others remain under investigation. “No other information is available at this time,” the spokesperson said.

The Shooting and Aftermath

Boyd, 29, was outside an Asian-fusion restaurant in Midtown Manhattan around 2 a.m. on Nov. 16 when a group reportedly began taunting him and companions. According to police, the encounter escalated after the group left the venue. Moments later, as the parties exited the club, a fight broke out. Witnesses say one individual drew a gun and fired two shots — one striking Boyd in the abdomen. No one from Boyd’s group was armed.

Video surveillance captured the gunman fleeing on foot, then entering a white BMW a couple blocks from the scene, police said.

Boyd was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. By Nov. 19, he was reported to be breathing on his own. He was discharged, but later readmitted due to complications. Most recently, he surprised teammates with a visit to the practice facility — a morale-boosting moment, coaches said.

Investigators say they still do not know whether Boyd was specifically targeted or whether the shooting was triggered by a random dispute. “We don’t have a motive yet,” a police spokesperson said Monday.

The suspect arrested in Buffalo is expected to be transported to New York City for further questioning and potential charges. Officials caution that the investigation remains active and that prosecutors will review all available evidence before proceeding.
