Pharrell Williams, Brandy and Kirk Franklin will be celebrated as part of the Recording Academy Honors, an official event during GRAMMY Week 2026. The honors ceremony, presented by the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective, is scheduled for Jan. 29 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

The event takes place just days before the 68th annual GRAMMY Awards on Feb. 1 at Crypto.com Arena.

Williams will receive the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. This honor recognizes his musical achievements and deep influence on global culture. It also highlights his work as an entrepreneur and philanthropist.

Brandy and Franklin are both set to receive the Black Music Icon Award, given to creators whose work has helped shape the music industry and inspired generations worldwide.

“Pharrell, Brandy and Kirk are true visionaries,” said Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. “Each has built a legacy that transcends genre, defies convention and shapes culture.”

A Legacy of Influence

Pharrell Williams has become one of the most recognizable names in music. As a producer, performer and collaborator, he has garnered multiple GRAMMY Awards and nominations. This year he earned nominations including Album of the Year.

Beyond music, Williams has established initiatives such as the nonprofit YELLOW, which supports educational opportunities for youth. He also founded Black Ambition, helping entrepreneurs of color succeed.

Brandy’s impact traces back to the 1990s, when her debut album went quadruple platinum. She won a GRAMMY for “The Boy Is Mine,” a duet that topped charts worldwide.

Often called “the Vocal Bible” by fans and artists alike, Brandy’s voice has influenced countless singers. She continues to evolve with new projects, including film roles and a forthcoming memoir.

Kirk Franklin has redefined contemporary gospel music for more than three decades. His powerful fusion of gospel with R&B and hip-hop has earned him 20 GRAMMY Awards.

Franklin’s recent album Father’s Day delivered a No. 1 single and further cemented his place in music history.

The Black Music Collective, the academy’s initiative to elevate Black music creators and leaders, will host its fourth annual honors event.

Proceeds and visibility from the event support scholarships and industry opportunities for emerging talent. Last year, the collective awarded scholarships to Black college students and HBCU music programs.

Guests at the honors celebration will enjoy curated performances and specialty cocktails courtesy of Patrón Tequila.

“This event isn’t just about celebrating success,” said a Recording Academy representative. “It’s about amplifying voices that have helped shape our culture and communities.”
