Pharrell Williams isn’t too “happy” about Donald Trump’s use of his 2013 hit single this weekend, so he’s taking legal measures to prevent him from ever using it again.
Just hours after 11 people were murdered at a Pittsburgh synagogue, Trump took the stage at a political rally in Indiana – and he used Pharrell’s Billboard track for his entrance.
The singer-producer’s attorney, Howard E. King, addressed a cease and desist letter to Trump telling him that Pharrell “has not, and will not, grant you permission to publicly perform or otherwise broadcast or disseminate any of his music.”
King opened the letter, stating, “On the day of the mass murder of 11 human beings at the hands of a deranged ‘nationalist,’ you played his song ‘Happy’ to a crowd at a political event in Indiana. There was nothing ‘happy’ about the tragedy inflicted upon our country on Saturday and no permission was granted for your use of this song for this purpose.”
