Last night (Jan 31.), Grammy Award-Winning musician PJ Morton joined guest host D.L Hughley for an interview and performance of “Be Like Water” on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.
Sporting orange tinted sunglasses, PJ Morton spoke with Hughley on his favorite artform, how lockdown was a creative release for his songwriting, and what it was like to work with Stevie Wonder and Nas on “Be Like Water”.
When asked about his favorite job title (singer, songwriter, or producer) he replied, “Performer – I really love getting in front of people and really seeing it in real life, in real time. Performing will always be my favorite.”
Hughley later asked about where he draws his inspiration as both a gospel and R&B artist. He answered, “For me, I like the songs to be a reflection of life. My life entails all of that. My life entails love, the weather being nice, my faith.” He added, “So I talk about all of those things and pull from them as I see fit.”
