President Joe Biden confidently stated that he would have defeated Donald Trump in the 2024 election had he remained in the race. During an appearance on The View, Biden reflected on his decision to step aside, citing his confidence in his ability to beat Trump but emphasizing his peace with leaving the race. “I am at peace with my decision,” Biden said. “When I ran for this last term, I saw myself as a transition president.”
Despite his exit, Biden insisted that he never fully believed the narrative that there was overwhelming opposition to his continued candidacy. “I was confident I would beat Trump. He’s a loser,” Biden stated.
Biden Addressing Party Pressure
Biden’s withdrawal from the race came amid concerns from some Democrats about his age and ability to endure a second term. However, the president denied that the pressure from party leaders like Speaker Nancy Pelosi influenced his decision to step aside. “There were some folks who would like to see me step aside so they have a chance to move on. I get that. That’s just human nature,” he said. “But that wasn’t the reason that I stepped down. I started thinking about it.”
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg voiced her disagreement with the public campaign to get Biden to drop out. “I didn’t like the way it was done publicly. I thought they could have done this in a different way,” Goldberg remarked.
Praising Kamala Harris
Throughout the interview, Biden praised Vice President Kamala Harris, calling her “bright,” “tough,” and “honorable.” He noted that during his presidency, there wasn’t a single responsibility he had that Harris couldn’t handle. “She has the energy, the intelligence, and the guts to do the right thing,” Biden said.
While Biden is no longer in the 2024 race, he made it clear that he believes Harris can carry the torch and lead the country. His confidence in both his past leadership and Harris’s potential was evident throughout the conversation.
