A biopic on the life of legendary rapper and actress Queen Latifah is officially in the works. Produced by Queen Latifah herself, alongside business partner Shakim Compere, the project will be a collaboration with Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment. The biopic will be part of a series of films highlighting iconic figures in hip-hop, independently financed by HarbourView Equity Partners.
Queen Latifah, born Dana Elaine Owens, is excited to bring her story to the big screen. In a joint statement with Compere, she said, “We all came into this industry together, and Hip Hop has shaped each and every one of us. It is a dream to collaborate with friends who understand and can tell these stories that were the backdrop of our lives.”
Will Smith’s Enthusiasm
Will Smith, 55, who will serve as a producer, praised the partnership, saying in a statement, “When you bring talented people and teams together, you can create something truly special. Queen Latifah’s Legendary Career
Queen Latifah’s career spans over three decades, starting with her breakout 1989 album All Hail the Queen. She has won a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and a Grammy, and has starred in films like Hairspray and The Equalizer.
While the release date and cast have yet to be announced, anticipation is building. Sherrese Clarke Soares, founder of HarbourView, described the project as “an honor,” saying, “Queen Latifah’s journey has left an undeniable impact on the world.”
