CBS has officially canceled The Equalizer, the crime drama starring Queen Latifah, after five seasons. The series finale aired on May 4, 2025, concluding the reboot that premiered in 2021.

A Final Mission

In the series finale, Robyn McCall (Latifah) and Detective Marcus Dante (Tory Kittles) are ambushed during a romantic retreat. Dante is shot by antagonist Salazar (Juan Javier Cardenas), who kidnaps McCall. She is later rescued by allies Harry (Adam Goldberg) and Mel (Liza Lapira). After defeating Salazar, McCall accepts Dante’s hospital-bed proposal. The episode concludes with their engagement party, surrounded by family and friends. Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) prepares for college, and Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint) plans a move with Curtis (Christopher B. Duncan). Showrunner Joe Wilson confirmed that the finale was designed to provide closure, given the show’s uncertain future during production.

A Grateful Farewell

Queen Latifah expressed gratitude to fans, cast, and crew in a heartfelt Instagram post, stating, “Thank you to the cast, crew, and our ride-or-die fans.” She added, “Don’t worry—I’ll be back kicking ass soon.”

CBS’s decision to cancel the series was attributed to declining viewership and financial considerations. Ratings dropped from 7.89 million to about 6 million after a time slot change. A proposed spinoff featuring characters from a Season 5 episode was also shelved.

Fans can stream all five seasons of The Equalizer on Paramount+, with the first three seasons also available on Netflix.

The series, a reboot of the 1980s original, followed Robyn McCall, a former CIA operative using her skills to help those in need. Latifah also served as an executive producer, bringing a fresh perspective to the franchise.

While The Equalizer has concluded, Queen Latifah’s portrayal of Robyn McCall leaves a lasting legacy, and fans eagerly await her next project.
