Questlove is reportedly working on D’ Angelo’s unreleased music.

Just before his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony tribute to Sly Stone, Queslove teased a possible new D’Angelo project.

“You’ll see soon,” Questlove told Courtney Tezeno. “It’s always the sound of yesterday, but for the future. This record is no different.”

He, along with Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Flea, Beck, and Maxwell, performed a medley of Sly and the Family Stone’s hits at the ceremony.

Questlove then shared the inspiration for his acclaimed documentary, Sly Lives.

“Sly is the first music I ever heard in my life,” he shared. “My parents constantly played it since I was one or two years old. His music is in my DNA. I wanted to tell the story of why innovators, the gods we hold up in the light, sometimes self-sabotage. It’s about their human side, and how often we’re not allowed to be seen as human.”

He said that the reception of his acclaimed film Summer of Soul led him to work on Sly’s doc.

“I wanted to explore what happens after Woodstock when innovators stand too close to the fire,” Quest said. “It’s not a sensationalist story; it’s about the human side of these gods we hold up in the light.”

Maxwell also lauded the work of Stone and D’Angelo.

“Sly had women on stage, white folks, Black folks, he was the future in music.”

Maxwell added, “I don’t think I’d have a moment like this if it wasn’t for his introduction to the world. My heart and soul go out to his family and his spirit in heaven.”

Questlove is also directing the forthcoming untitled documentary about the legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire. Along with the support of the band and the estate of its late founder, Maurice White, it’s set to debut on HBO in 2026. Questlove has called the project “the definitive story of the Elements.”
