It looks like R.Kelly will not be heading to court for his New York trial any time soon.
According to reports, the singer had his trial date pushed back to June 16th due to the pre-sentencing report not being filed until Tuesday, April 5th.
Kelly’s lawyers fought to have his hearing rescheduled to August but the judge denied it. However, the disgraced singer’s attorneys argued that “an earlier sentencing date would interfere with his constitutional rights against self-incrimination due to his upcoming federal trial in Chicago.”
They also stated, “His victims have waited years to see the defendant held to account and sentenced for his crimes.”
On September 27th, 2021, R. Kelly was found guilty by a Brooklyn jury on eight counts of violating the Mann Act, the anti-sex trafficking statute, as well as one count of racketeering.
If convicted, Kelly could face life in prison.
