Regina Hall and Anna Faris are set to reprise their fan-favorite roles in a long-awaited revival of the Scary Movie franchise, the actresses announced today. The project marks a major reunion with the Wayans brothers—Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory—for the first time in nearly two decades.
In a joint statement, Hall and Faris said, “We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again.)”
An Original Team Returns
Marlon Wayans confirmed the revival via Instagram, sharing nostalgic images from the original film and writing “SM6” to tease the upcoming installment. The Wayans brothers, who created the first two Scary Movie films, are back to co-write and produce this sixth installment alongside longtime collaborator Rick Alvarez.
Michael Tiddes, a frequent Wayans collaborator known for A Haunted House, has been tapped as director.
Release Date and Production Details
The reboot is scheduled for release on June 12, 2026. Meanwhile, another report suggests filming could begin as early as October 2025, aiming for a possible July 12, 2026 release.
The Scary Movie franchise originally skewered teen slashers such as Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The reboot is expected to embrace a similar spirit, though some reports hint at riffs on contemporary prestige-style horror like Hereditary or The Babadook.
This marks a hopeful return to form. The first film grossed $278 million off a $19 million budget, while the franchise has generated nearly $900 million overall.
Regina Hall (Brenda Meeks) and Anna Faris (Cindy Campbell) were central figures in the first four films. They sat out Scary Movie 5 in 2013, which became the series’ lowest-grossing entry.
Faris previously stated she’d only return if Hall did as well, underscoring their close friendship and on-screen chemistry.
