You’ve seen her in “Boyz in the Hood”, “Poetic Justice”, and many more amazing films for her memorable roles, but last night at the Oscars 91st Academy Award Ceremony you saw her create history.
The three-time Emmy Award winner, Regina King took home an Oscar award for her role in “If Beale Street Could Talk” for “Best Supporting Actress” presented by Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. This is King’s first time not only winning an Oscar Award but being nominated.
Regina King dedicated her award and hard work to her mother and James Baldwin.
“Mom, I love you so much,” she said through tears. “Thank you for teaching me that God has always been leaning in my direction.”
King also adds:
“To be standing here representing one of the greatest artists of our time, James Baldwin — it’s a little surreal. James Baldwin birthed this baby and Barry, you nurtured her, you surrounded her with so much love and support, so it’s appropriate for me to be standing here because I’m an example of what it looks like when support and love is poured into someone.
Congratulations Regina King!!
