Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) made strong remarks about President Donald Trump, calling him a “thug” during an MSNBC interview with Alex Witt. The congresswoman criticized Trump’s approach to governance, particularly his recent actions against federal agencies and officials.
Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett Criticizes Trump’s Leadership
“It’s a cleansing,” Crockett stated. “When Democrats said our democracy was at risk, people dismissed it as gaslighting. But Trump himself admitted he’d be a dictator on Day 1.” She warned that the president is undermining the system of checks and balances, essential for a democratic republic.
“We talked about Project 2025, the consolidation of power, and how he wants to be a king,” she added. “He’s doing everything he can to eliminate those checks and balances. The DOJ and the people he’s targeting were simply doing their jobs.”
Crockett expressed concern over Trump’s leadership style, accusing him of dividing the nation. “Let me tell you: We have a thug in charge of the United States,” she asserted. “And if we don’t wake up, we may not have a United States because right now, he has only been successful in being a divider-in-chief.”
Trump’s administration has faced intense scrutiny for policies regarding immigration, diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as foreign relations. His administration’s website outlines priorities such as making America “safe again” and “draining the swamp,” but critics argue his actions tell a different story.
“The problem is that Americans thought it was okay to take a full-fledged criminal and make him the president,” Crockett continued. “Then they want to act aghast when he does criminal things.”
Crockett’s remarks sparked a backlash from Trump supporters, with some calling her “vulgar” and “dangerous.” However, others praised her courage for speaking out. One supporter wrote on social media, “It’s starting to feel like Elizabeth Warren and Jasmine Crockett are the only ones with real fight in them.”
Despite the controversy, Crockett remains firm in her stance, warning that unchecked power in the hands of Trump could have dire consequences for democracy.
