Rev. Al Sharpton will get to the bottom of the DEI rollbacks at Target and other companies as he is set to meet with Brian Cornell, Target’s CEO.
According to reports, Cornell requested to meet with Rev. Sharpton in New York this week to discuss what the company can do to get the support of the Black community. Target has lost a significant amount of foot traffic since it decided to end its DEI efforts.
“You can’t have an election to come and all of a sudden, change your old positions,” Sharpton said. “If an election determines your commitment to fairness, then fine, you have a right to withdraw from us, but then we have a right to withdraw from you.”
PepsiCo’s CEO Ramon Laguarta is also set to meet with Sharpton and the members of the National Action Network to talk about why the company decided to end its DEI efforts in February as well. Sharpton sent a letter to Laguarta on April 4th to inform him about a boycott that would be launched if he “refused to meet with him to talk about the rollbacks and why they are happening.”
Hopefully, these meetings will be an eye-opener on why DEI is important.
