Robert Cosby Jr., son of Mary Cosby of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, has pleaded guilty to a string of charges including assault, trespassing and violating a protective order. Court records show Cosby Jr. admitted guilt to eight charges in total.
Guilty Plea, No Bail
On Tuesday, Cosby Jr. appeared before the Salt Lake County District Court and entered his plea. Among the charges he acknowledged: felony property damage of more than $5,000, criminal trespass of a dwelling, assault on a peace officer, violation of a jail release order and two counts of violating a pretrial protective order.
A judge ordered that he remain in jail without bail until his next hearing, scheduled for Feb. 3, 2026, when sentencing will occur.
The charges stem from incidents between September and November 2025. Prosecutors allege Cosby Jr. attempted to break into his father-in-law’s home — reportedly trying to enter through a dog door — and later returned and vandalized property. On at least one occasion arresting officers say he bit a police officer during a struggle.
The guilty plea comes one day after his estranged wife, Alexiana Arian Smokoff, filed for divorce in Salt Lake County. Court documents filed Nov. 24 demand that neither party harass or contact the other, directly or electronically.
Cosby Jr., 23, has long been the subject of public concern, with his mother Mary previously discussing his difficulties with substance abuse. In a 2024 interview, she said “it’s a hardcore road” and admitted she could only “push him, encourage him and love him.”
At Tuesday’s hearing, Cosby Jr.’s attorney stated the defendant had been slow to recognize the end of his marriage. “Robert has accepted responsibility for his mistakes,” the lawyer said, adding that Cosby Jr. was raised to value marriage highly.
Mary Cosby has expressed mixed emotions. Though visibly shaken by the developments, she suggested the legal consequences might be a wake-up call. “He needed that,” she said in a recent interview.
With sentencing set for early February, Cosby Jr. remains behind bars. The judge will likely review his criminal history — including a prior DUI conviction in 2022 — before imposing a sentence.
