Fans will get an inside look into the life of Rick James.
A new documentary is coming out about the late singer called, “Bitchin’: The Sound and Fury of Rick James, where it will explore the highs and lows of the singer’s life.
Rolling Stone reports that a clip of the documentary was played during the Tribeca Film Fest was centered around James giving the funk genre a pop edge and how he made it to commercial success.
The clip also features James’ hit “Superfreak” as well as never before released home videos and interviews with his friends, peers, other artists, and more.
Sacha Jenkins, the director of the film said, “The ‘wild’ side of Rick James often eclipses his musical genius, but the mathematical equation that is his life depends on all of the numbers to make a whole.”
He continued, “Our aim was to create a balanced portrait of a brilliant artist who both chased his dreams and stalked more than a few demons. Still, his influence on funk and popular music, and culture is unparalleled, and his eventual rise to the top is easily more compelling than any freebase rush.”
Rick James passed away in 2004. At the moment there is no set release date for the documentary.
