Rihanna has recently opened up about her journey with postpartum hair loss. In a new interview with Refinery29, the Umbrella hit-maker, who shares two sons with A$AP Rocky, admitted, “That was not on the pamphlet.” The Grammy winner, 36, shared her unexpected experience, saying, “I did not expect it to happen in waves, either. I thought it would just happen and grow back.”
Rihanna Embracing the Change
Rihanna revealed she finally came to terms with her hair fall as part of her postpartum journey. “I learned to embrace that in itself,” confessed the 36-year-old. She explained that this challenge made her more inventive with her hairstyles. “That actually made me get a little more creative and cleverer with my hair stuff,” she stated.
Rihanna talked about her love for experimenting with her looks, saying, “You know how much switching my hair up matters to me.” Her hairstyles have varied from chic high ponytails and tousled long curls to honey blonde bangs and layers. Recently, she ditched her wigs, giving a rare look at her natural hair texture. She embraced her curls in public while promoting Fenty Hair.
Launching Fenty Hair
Rihanna announced her latest beauty venture: Fenty Hair, which launched on June 13. The new line includes reparative and strengthening shampoos, conditioners, and more. She explained the need for such products, stating, “I’ve had almost every texture, colour, length, from weaves to braids and natural… so I am launching a flexible line of products for not only every hair want, but every single product is designed to strengthen and repair all types of hair, which is what we truly need.”
At the Fenty Hair launch party in Los Angeles, Rihanna shared the challenges she faced creating the line. “Considering all hair types, considering all of the brands that I’ve been in love with my entire life, I’m thinking, ‘If it’s not better than this one, it can’t work,’” she told the crowd. She stressed the importance of healthy hair, saying, “I want to look fly, but I want my hair to be healthy. How do I do that? All of my products need to strengthen and repair while I’m out just being fabulous.”
Despite the challenges, Rihanna remains open to expanding her family. In another interview with E! News, she mentioned, “I would not be mad… I would just cry out of pure anxiety for one day and then I think I’ll just get over it the next.”
