Robin Thicke brought a beam of light the WBLS studios when stopped by to check-in with his New York Sweetheart!
Noting she hasn’t seen Robin since he was promoting his 2014 post break up album, Paula, which was dedicated to his now ex-wife Paula Patton, Shaila had plenty to catch up on including the details about his new life as a father of three. The Grammy Award nominee jokingly said he spent Mother’s Day with his baby mama April and their two daughters, Mia, 1 year old, and newborn Lola, who just turned 10 weeks old.
Thicke also opened up about his nine-year-old son Julian, whom he shares with Patton. He noted Julian, “He has adjusted so well [to the divorce] and he’s a great big brother and he’s a singer – he’s got the gift!” He went on to explain how he knows his son inherited the family music gene.
“When Aretha passed, I started playing a lot of Aretha in the house and he got into that then went into Lauryn Hill then Mary J. Blige. He made a playlist for his birthday: It had Otis Redding, Earth, Wind & Fire…and I was like, ‘Okay, that’s my son!’”

As Shaila and Robin talked family, Thicke shared memories of his father – and one of America’s favorite TV dads – Alan Thicke.
For those who didn’t know or may have forgotten, the senior Thicke composed the theme song for Different Strokes and Facts of Life while his mother sand the tune for Facts of Life. Robin says they inspired him when he saw his mom sing and perform on stage and his dad spending late nights with his buddies writing jokes and writing songs.
And with a new album coming out, Robin couldn’t leave without dropping some gems about the upcoming project.
“A lot of the album is about celebration. It’s about the hope and the light at the end of the tunnel when you’re going through tough times – that you will get out of it.”
