Ryan Coogler is living the Hollywood dream now that he’s made history with a billion-dollar movie under his belt. And he’s getting ready to do it again.
The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reports that the man behind one of the biggest films of the year (and in history) has “quietly closed a deal to write and direct the sequel.”
Fans across the world have always expected a sequel since the film’s initial February release, but now the ink is on the dotted line.

THR says Coogler and his camp were “hounded” about a creating a Black Panther 2, but the history-making film director wanted to take his time before signing into the new deal.
Coogler is reportedly planning to begin writing the script next year – with production starting at the end of 2019 or the top of 2020. However, Disney, Marvel Studios’ parent company, hasn’t made any official announcement for its upcoming films beyond the next Avengers movie, slatted to release in May of next year, and a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel to follow in July.
While the Black Panther follow-up is sure to be a hit, it’s not the only project on Coogler’s radar. The California screenwriter is working with Michael B. Jordan on two new ventures: Wrong Answer and Creed 2, and executive producing LeBron James’ Space Jam sequel.
