The legendary rap duo Salt-N-Pepa are set to appear in a new documentary about skating called “United Skates”. The two reflect on how the sport of skating help foster the formation of hip-hop.
In the film, Pepa stated “it [skating rink] was a place where, the streets, everybody met up.” The film focuses on how skating was a crucial part of the African American culture. It also features interviews from the rink owners as they reflect on how skating was more of movement that quickly spread across the country. It also had its racial disparities and forms of harassment throughout the years as well.
The film also features interviews by Naughty by Nature’s Vin Rock, Coolio and more. The film is produced by John Legend and is scheduled to premiere on February 18th at 8pm.
