Held each year during Black Music Month since 1993, the Capital Jazz Fest is one of the longest running festivals in the DMV and one of the premier black music events in the country, featuring over 30 acts over three days. In-between musical sets, enjoy the juried craft vendors at the Festival Marketplace, culinary treats at the food courts, and interactive Q&A sessions with the artists.

Samara Joy

Earlier this month, Joy earned her fourth and fifth GRAMMY Award. The Bronx native took home gold for Best Jazz Performance (“Twinkle Twinkle Little Me” feat. Sullivan Fortner) and Best Jazz Vocal Album (A Joyful Holiday). Joy previously won Best New Artist (2023), Best Jazz Vocal Album (Linger Awhile, 2023), and Best Jazz Performance (“Tight,” 2024).

She also snagged her first NAACP image award for her latest studio album Portrait (Outstanding Jazz Album).

Joy continues to introduce younger generations to timeless music. She recently appeared as a featured guest on the 55th season of Sesame Street.

Esperanza Spalding

Two-time Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2005. She made history in 2011 when she became the first jazz musician to win Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards, famously beating out Drake and Justin Bieber. A composer, singer and bass player, Spalding recently wrapped up her 12-night Blue Note residency.

Tickets are currently available on the Capital Jazz Fest website.
