Samuel L. Jackson is set to star in NOLA King on Paramount +.
This will be Jackson’s first headlining role on a TV series.
A spinoff of Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King, Jackson’s Russell Lee Washington Jr., character was introduced in season three of the series.
A former prison friend of Sylvester Stallone’s character, Dwight Manfredi, Washington was sent to Tulsa by the New York-based Renzetti crime family to kill Manfredi. BUt Washington Jr. is instead inspired by Dwight’s creation in Tulsa and impressed with the idea of a second chance. Washington makes his return to New Orleans—a city he abandoned forty years prior. Tto rebuild relationships with family and friends. He’s seeking to “take control of the city he left behind,” all while incurring the wrath of his former employers and facing old foes.”
Stallone released a statement saying that the spinoff elevates Tulsa King “beyond a mob boss series, creating a dynamic, family-driven franchise.” He added that “Sam Jackson is the only choice to anchor this new adventure in NOLA.”
Speaking with Collider, Jackson opened up about joining the show.
“At least 15 of those shows are on my watchlist all the time. So I’m really happy to be in that universe,” Jackson said in the summer. “I watched Tulsa King, and I liked it even before that idea came up.”
“I don’t know anything about it. But I do know that I’m very anxious to jump into it and find out what it’s going to be.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jackson said he would love to film NOLA King in New Orleans. Because of the tax incentives, fiming could be much more inexpensive than other locations.
“Why you tryin’ to work cheap?” Jackson asked. “Let’s go to New Orleans!”
While no release date has been released for NOLA King, Deadline reported in July 2025 filming was slated to begin in February 2026.
