Sean Paul Pleads For Help As Jamaica Is Devastated By Hurricane Melissa

Sean Paul is pleading for help for those affected by Hurricane Melissa in his native country of Jamaica.

Paul took to Instagram on Thursday, Oct. 30, he announced he’ll match up to $50,000 in donations to help those impacted.

“Right now, my island of Jamaica is going through a really tough time,” wrote Paul. “Hurricane Melissa has caused serious damage, and many of our brothers and sisters are struggling — families displaced, homes destroyed, and communities in need of help.”

“Through the Sean Paul Foundation, we’ve partnered with Food For The Poor Jamaica to bring relief directly to those affected,” the post continued.

“I’m asking all my fans, friends, and supporters worldwide, if you can, please give what you can,” said Paul. “Every donation counts, no matter how small. Together, we can make a big difference.”

Paul then expressed how he’ll be sharing his geneosoity with his country.

“And to show how much this means to me, I’ll be matching every dollar raised, up to fifty thousand dollars,” continued the caption. “Together, we can double the impact and help even more families get back on their feet.”

“Let’s stand strong for Jamaica one love, one family, one nation,” he concluded. “Big up, and thank you for your support.

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on October 28 as a Category 5 hurricane. The maximum sustained winds of reached 185mph/ This made Melissa the strongest hurricane on record to directly strike the island nation. Due to its slow movement, the storm inflicted catastrophic damage, causing widespread destruction of infrastructure, mass power outages, and extensive flooding across Jamaica. Melissa later weakened and made a second landfall in Cuba as a Category 3 hurricane before continuing on to affect the Bahamas and Bermuda.

At least seven people died before the storm made landfall near New Hope on the southwestern side of Jamaica.
