Senator Cory Booker is off the market!
The New Jersey democrat announced his engagement to girlfriend Alexis Lewis in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
“I’m thrilled to share: Alexis and I are engaged!” Booker wrote on Instagram with a photo of him and Lewis – and the ring on her finger.
“She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love,” he wrote.
According to CNN, Booker told reporters Tuesday that he and Lewis were in Kauai, Hawaii, and that one of his friends told Lewis that they wanted to surprise Booker with a “traditional Hawaiian greeting.”
“She thought we were going down just to have leis put over us. And we walked out and there was a hula dancer, a Hawaiian dancer, a Polynesian dancer, and a guy with a ukulele. And then after their second song, other performers came up and sang a song that’s really meaningful to her, that she told me since one of our early dates, that she wants at her wedding,” he said.
“We moved in together,” he revealed on Andy Cohen Live in June. “It’s a wonderful thing. She’s a really special, extraordinary person.”
Booker, 56, also shared that he and Lewis often unwind by watching their favorite series together, and while he admitted to watching Love Is Blind with her in the past, he emphasized that the unscripted genre isn’t his area of expertise.
Booker has served in the Senate since 2013. Previously, he’d served as mayor of Newark, New Jersey. He most recently history this year with a marathon speech on the Senate floor, railing against the Trump administration’s actions, policies and plans for more than 25 hours.
Booker was previously linked to actress Rosario Dawson, before the couple broke up in 2022. Much of the online reaction to the news was people saying that his fiancée has an uncanny resemblance to Ms. Dawson.
