Sherrone Moore had an alleged “long history of domestic violence” against a female Michigan staffer.
According to The Athletic, Detective Jessica Welker of the Pittsfield Township Police Department revealed the allegation during Moore’s arraignment. He’s being charged with third-degree home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering.
The female staffer told police that she informed the university about her relationship with Moore. She planned to leave town when Moore barged into her apartment.”
Heidi Sharp, the staffer’s attorney, called 911 to alert authorities that Moore was inside her client’s apartment.
Moore allegedly “grabbed knives and pointed them at her, then pointed the knives at himself.” He backed away when the woman put Sharp on the speakerphone.
Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office said that “The evidence that was available to us at the time of the charging decision indicated that Mr. Moore had an intent to terrorize and harass the victim.
The prosecutor’s office also said the case “remains under active investigation.” Additionally, charges could be added or amended based on new evidence. Prosecutors have not received “any requests for charges for any previous incidents involving Mr. Moore.”
Before his dramatic fall, Moore made history on January 26, 2024, as the first African American to lead the program. On December 10, the University of Michigan terminated Moore “for cause.” He was fired after an investigation into an inappropriate relationship with a female staff member.
Michigan president Domenico Grasso said the investigation includes a law firm’s review into “the athletic department’s culture, conduct, and procedures.”
Moore finished his career at Michigan with a head coaching record of 18–8 after replacing Jim Harborough. After a 9–3 regular season in 2025, the Wolverines won a bid to the Citrus Bowl before his departure.
Following the termination of Moore on December 10, 2025, the University of Michigan appointed Biff Poggi as the interim head coach.
