“I had a police car stationed outside my house for a week following each season finale,” she revealed. “They got mean, and you never knew who was going to really take offense in the wrong way.”

Rhimes went beyond police presence, acknowledging the necessity of hiring 24-hour security for her Los Angeles residence. The decision stemmed from a profound concern for her and her family’s safety amidst the unpredictability of fan behavior.

Despite the show’s immense success, Rhimes confessed to grappling with the mental toll of fearing for her personal safety. The stress and anxiety of dealing with fan backlash infiltrated her daily life, disrupting her ability to find solace and peace.

“I wanted to just be able to walk out my front door and hang out with my kids and not be worried,” Rhimes lamented. “I would lay awake at night with stress.”

Rhimes acknowledged the invaluable support she received from friends who shared similar experiences, offering perspective and guidance on navigating the challenges of fame and fandom. Their encouragement reinforced the importance of prioritizing personal well-being amidst professional accomplishments.
