Simone Biles defends her husband Jonathan Owens after his viral podcast comments sparked controversy. Biles clarifies the impact of Owens’ remarks, revealing her initial amusement and subsequent hurt over the public’s reaction.

“I thought everything was OK, and then I go on Twitter and everybody’s like, ‘Divorce this man. He’s mean!’” Biles recalled on Call Her Daddy. “I’m like, ‘He’s the sweetest. He praises the ground that I walk on.’ Truly, I’ve never met a man like him.”

Initially finding the situation “hilarious,” Biles soon felt the sting of criticism directed at her husband. “Why are you guys talking about my husband like this?” she questioned, defending Owens’ character amidst the online uproar.

“I thought it was hilarious what all these people were saying, ‘Divorce him, divorce him’… I thought it was hilarious at first and then it hurt my feelings,” she admitted. “One night I broke down and I’m like, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? You don’t know him. You don’t know who he is and if anybody’s met him, you know he’s the sweetest guy, will do anything for anybody.’ That really hurt that they were talking about my husband like that. For me, it’s like, talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family, never.”

While accustomed to public scrutiny, Biles emphasizes her protective stance towards her loved ones. She acknowledges shedding tears over hurtful comments, yet maintains a composed exterior. “Talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family, never,” she asserts.

“Because for me, it’s like: ‘Talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family, never,’” she said. “Because I’ve been in the limelight long enough where I can brush things off, have my little powwow about it. You’re not going to know I cried about it, but I be crying about some stuff. But I only cry about it because I can’t clap back. Just know that.”

Owens’ remarks about their meeting on Raya and his initial lack of awareness about Biles’ gymnastic achievements stirred controversy. Despite the backlash, the couple’s bond remains strong, evident in their candid podcast conversation and social media interactions.

Their love story, marked by a chance meeting on a dating app and a whirlwind romance, culminated in a heartfelt commitment. Despite the initial uncertainty, Owens and Biles found an instant connection, leading to their heartfelt union in 2023.

As they continue to navigate the complexities of fame and love, Biles and Owens remain steadfast in their support for each other. With the Paris Olympics on the horizon, Biles hopes to share the experience with her husband, offering him a glimpse into her world of athleticism and dedication.
