Simone Biles‘ biological mother, Shanon Biles, recently opened up about her desire to reconnect with her daughter after years of estrangement. In an emotional interview with the Daily Mail, Shanon, now 52, reflected on her past struggles with addiction and how they impacted her relationship with Simone and her siblings.
“It took me six years before I saw my children again,” Shanon revealed. “I was still using, and [my father] didn’t want me coming in and out of their lives when I wasn’t right.” Shanon shared that she made the difficult decision to let her father, Ronald Biles, and his wife, Nellie, take custody of Simone and her sister Adria. Ronald’s sister took in the two older children, Ashley and Tevin.
While Shanon has been sober for some time, her relationship with Simone remains distant. “I want her to reach out to me. She’s 27 now. She’s married. I would have liked to have been a part of that, but I just have to wait for her,” she said, expressing her hope for reconciliation.
Shannon Biles’ Hope for Forgiveness
Despite the challenges, Shanon remains optimistic about the possibility of rekindling her relationship with Simone. “I would like to make amends with Simone personally,” she said. “I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward… Let’s sit down.”
Shanon explained that she has Simone’s direct number but chooses not to use it. “I want her to reach out to me,” she said, acknowledging that the decision is ultimately up to Simone.
For now, Shanon continues to work as a grocery store cashier in Ohio and remains hopeful that one day, she and her daughter will have a chance to rebuild their relationship. “I’m waiting on her,” she said. “I have patience.”
