Seattle Storm guard Skylar Diggins has filed for divorce from her husband, Daniel Smith, after eight years of marriage. The filing occurred on March 26, 2025, in King County Superior Court, Washington. Court documents cite the marriage as “irretrievably broken.”
A Personal and Professional Shift
Diggins and Smith married in Chicago in 2017 and share two children: Rowen Seven, 6, and Ana Lia Irie, 2. The couple separated on November 1, 2024. There is no prenuptial agreement, and neither party is seeking spousal support. Smith will contribute to child-related expenses, including daycare and education.
At a press conference on April 29, Diggins addressed the media, stating, “I no longer want Smith included when referencing my name.” This marks a return to her maiden name, under which she built her basketball career.
Skylar Diggins Career Resurgence and Future Focus
After sitting out the 2023 season, Diggins joined the Seattle Storm in 2024, averaging 15.1 points and 6.4 assists per game. She was named the AP 2024 Comeback Player of the Year. Reflecting on her move to Seattle, she said, “The grass is definitely greener for me… I’m focused on being here where I’m planted.”
Diggins has expressed a desire to leave a legacy in women’s sports. In a 2020 interview, she stated, “I have the thought that one day I want my daughter to have the opportunity to play in this league.”
Smith, a former Notre Dame wide receiver, transitioned to an art career after an injury, founding Doperman Studios in Dallas. Both parties have remained private about the reasons for their separation.
