DJ Quik’s son, David Marvin Blake Jr., was found guilty in connection to a deadly 2022 shooting Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that a jury reached a verdict on Thursday (Dec. 4). Blake was convicted of second-degree murder in addition to shooting from a motor vehicle. The charges stem from the killing of 31-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza, Jr.
Cardoza was fatally shot on May 25, 2022. Now Blake is facing up to 40 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for February 6, 2026.
Prosecutors say the incident occurred after a fight broke out between Cardoza and another man in Downey, CA. Blake, who was nearby, allegedly opened fire from a vehicle, striking Cardoza multiple times before driving off. Cardoza was taken to a hospital, but later died from his injuries. Blake was arrested the next day. His bail was set at $2 million.
Blake is the son of G-Funk pioneer DJ Quik. Prior to his conviction, Blake was building his own name in music. He appeared on his father’s 2014 album The Midnight Life.
KTLA reports that at the time of the shooting Blake was also working with Compton City Councilman Issac Galvan as a liaison. Galvan was removed from office in 2022 for his own set of legal trouble. He faced election fraud allegations and pled and pled guilty to accepted bribes tied to cannabis permits.
Blake’s sentencing is scheduled for February 6, 2026.
