Steph Curry and his wife Ayesha Curry have launched a STEM scholarship through their organization, Steph and Ayesha Curry Foundation. The program is geared towards girls who are interested in pursuing a career in Science, Technology, Education and Math fields.
The organization made the announcement over the weekend after 9-year-old Riley Morrison asked Curry “why his Under Armour sneaker line didn’t include a colorway for girls.” So in honor of International Women’s Day and Morrison, the basketball player launched a purple colorway for his Curry 6 sneaker that was co-designed by Morrison.
According to HotNewHipHop:
The annual scholarship will be awarded to a college-bound female student in the Bay Area “who has shown an aptitude for overcoming adversity, catalyzing change within her community and demonstrating excellence in a STEM-related field of study.”
It is is a $30,000 award that will be paid out over the span of two years, requiring the recipient to maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.
.@StephenCurry30 wasn’t comfortable profiting off Riley’s shoe design, so he went to @UnderArmour and turned it into a scholarship that will impact girls for years to come. #RuinTheGame pic.twitter.com/d72fvkP9E7
