Stephanie Mills is demanding an apology from Lady Gaga.
During an appearance on BET’s The Jason Lee Show, Mills recalled a bad interaction with Gaga when her managers asked her to sing for her.
“And they came to me, and they said, ‘Home’ is Lady Gaga’s favorite song. She’s doing a fashion shoot in New York. Would you come and sing? Would you come and surprise her and sing ‘Home’?” Mills recalled. “At first, I said, ‘No, why would I do that? No,’ and I was talked into it.”
According to Mills, the experience was not memorable.
“I went, and she had her little black dog there and all the other people, and so I sang for her,” Mills said of Gaga, who has 16 Grammys of her own. “She didn’t smile; she didn’t do anything. And she looked at me like I had two heads.”
Mills went on to say that she wasn’t compensated for the performance, but the fashion photographer would take pictures of her.
“So, I finished singing ‘Home,’ and we took pictures,” Mills recounted.
“Before we left, they said, ‘You’ve got to delete all those pictures,’” Mills said of Gaga’s team. “We were at the elevator getting ready to leave, and they came, and they said, ‘Delete.’ And they did not let us leave until they saw every picture being deleted.”
Lee added that the moment sounded “very disrespectful.”
MILLS ACCUSED LADY GAGA OF BEING A ‘CULTURE VULTURE’
“That’s why I say she’s a culture vulture,” Mills said. “Because she was managed correctly by Black men. She did a song with R. Kelly.”
Mills then shared how she handled the situation.
“I know who I am. You know, I did it. I sang the song for her, and I had admiration for her but I don’t any longer,” Mills said. “I give everybody grace, and I’ve learned throughout the years to take my temperature down and not react, but show them who I am later.”
Mills is looking forward to meeting Gaga again.
I hope you watch, and I hope you remember what you did,” Mills said. “And I feel like you owe me an apology.”
